A brief history of the Department
The Department of Hindi was started in 1982 in Hooogly Mohsin College. Dr. S N Pandey, Asst. Professor in Linguistic of Sanskrit College, Kolkata was the first Part- time Lecturer to start teaching in Hindi from 8th February 1982. Later on, this post was sanctioned by Government from September 1984.
From February 1982 to September 2005, only one part- time teacher was available to teach Hindi. The part-time lecturers who rendered their services were Dr. S N Pandey, Sreeram Yadava, Vijay Bharati, Hrishikesh Singh, Ranjana Sharma and Sanjay Jaiswal respectively. On September 2005, a post from the Department of Bengali of Hooghly Mohsin College was converted into the full- time post of Hindi Department and Dr. Sheonah Pandey, Reader in Hindi, Presidency College, Kolkata was transferred to this post. Dr. Pandey was professor and Head of Department till 2016. After being transferred from Darjeeling Govt. College in March 2012, Dr. Chakradhar Padhan joined the Department as an Assistant Professor to the post that got vacant after Dr. Pandey joined the post of professor. In the year 2019 Dr. Ranjit Kumar joined the department.
The honours course in Hindi was introduced in the year 2014 and is successfully continuing till date. The departmental Teachers are dedicated and work their level best for the inspiration and betterment of the students.
