Research Activities of the College

Hooghly Mohsin College, established in 1836, accredited by NAAC with B++ grade has a Research and Seminar Sub-Committee duly constituted by the Teachers’ Council of the College. The Research and Seminar Sub-Committee is a vital component of a higher education institutions, playing a crucial role in fostering a culture of inquiry, innovation, and academic excellence. The primary objectives of this Committee include:

The research activities of the College are undertaken mostly by the faculty members as well some dedicated research scholars. Presently, 22 research scholars have been awarded their Ph.D. degree from different Indian Universities working from this College, 24 research scholars are working for their degree currently under the supervision of recognised supervisors from Indian Universities or submitted their thesis in various disciplines. The total number of recognised Ph.D. supervisors is 10 in this College. Three Post-Graduate Departments of the College, viz., Urdu, Physiology and Geology, which are the stand-alone departments of the University functioning from this College campus. The Research and Seminar Committee has published the latest Volume 13, Issue 1 and 2, 2026 of Academic Journal of Hooghly Mohsin College (AJHMC), which is a peer-reviewed and multidisciplinary journal published annually from this College.

The Research and Publication Sub-Committee also ensures organizing periodic researchoriented seminars & conferences in the College. It deliberates all important issues relevant to research at the college level. The establishment of Research & Publication Committee is aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, which aims to revise and revamp all aspects of the education scenario in the country to suit the aspirational targets of 21st century education. The NEP thus gives new dimension to research in HEIs as it promotes the culture of research and knowledge creation.
